The Political Ecology of Seed Stewardship is a hands-on workshop developed in collaboration with Juan Manuel Velez that seeks to connect practical seed stewardship skills with the political and ecological significance of stewarding locally resilient seeds. Participants learn different methods of harvesting and preserving seeds, as well as basic genetics relevant to seed selection. Participants also learn about the commodification of seeds through intellectual property rights, and the implications this has for the erosion of agrobiodiversity and of biocultural memory.
