Zugunrue

Zugunrue is the restless, anxious behavior of animals, especially birds, when it is time to migrate. It is the sense that starts creeping in when the days get longer, that change is going to happen, needs to happen & is. always. happening. 

This narrative was painted while completing an artist residency in a forest that is now called Rowe, Massachusetts. It is a reflection of my encounters with birds in dreams and in conventional reality over the previous year. Scenes are painted upon prints of the 2018 calendar that I paint and use as tools to reflect and project upon my years. Overlaying experiences from 2017 on 2018 represents the nonlinear nature of growth and change. This is a map, a timeline, a constellation and me learning to honor my dreams so I may become more bird.
